The original cast recording of Shrek the Musical will be released by Decca Broadway on March 24. The show, which opened at the Broadway Theatre on December 14, was recorded at Sony’s Legacy Studios on January 12.
Shrek the Musical is based on the story and characters from William Steig’s book Shrek!, as well as the DreamWorks Animation film Shrek, the first chapter of the movie series. It features a book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire Rabbit Hole, music by Jeanine Tesori Thoroughly Modern Millie, Caroline, or Change and is directed by Tony nominee Jason Moore.
Highlights of the forthcoming disc include Brian d’Arcy James as the title character singing “Big, Bright Beautiful World,” Sutton Foster as Princess Fiona singing “I Know It’s Today,” Christopher Sieber as Lord Farquaad leading the cast in the over-the-top “What’s Up, Duloc?” Daniel Breaker as Donkey singing “Don’t Let Me Go” and “Freak Flag,” featuring John Tartaglia as Pinocchio and the entire company.
